🎂 Kids’ Birthday Party in Montreal: How to Plan a Fun and Creative Celebration
Planning a kids’ birthday party in Montreal means finding an activity the whole group will enjoy, while also thinking about how long the party should last, drinks, snacks or a meal, and of course the all-important party favor.
At Café La Chouette, we welcome groups of children and teens for cookie decorating activities at our cafés in Plateau-Mont-Royal and Little Italy.
The idea is simple: offer a creative activity around which the whole party can easily be organized, without parents having to prepare every detail themselves.
🍪 1. Choose an Activity That Really Keeps Kids Engaged
For a birthday party, an activity works especially well when it is simple enough for everyone to participate, while still giving children the freedom to create something in their own way.
With cookie decorating, each child chooses their colors, uses icing and decorations, and creates cookies that are completely different from those made by their friends.
No drawing skills or previous cookie decorating experience are needed. Some children keep things very simple, while others spend a lot of time adding small details.
And best of all, the kids can eat their creations afterward or take them home.
🎨 2. Choose a Package That Fits the Children’s Age
Children Ages 6 to 10
At this age, children are usually independent enough to choose their colors, come up with their own cookie designs and decorate at their own pace.
Our children’s packages include cookies to decorate, icing, sprinkles, a juice and a cupcake.
Depending on the package selected, the activity lasts 1.5 or 2 hours.
Teens Ages 11 to 16
For older kids, the experience also becomes a chance to chat, spend time together and be creative with friends.
The teen package includes 4 themed cookies, 4 icing colors, a house mocktail and a gourmet cookie.

⏱️ 3. How Much Time Should You Plan for the Birthday Party?
For most birthday parties, 1.5 to 2 hours is a good amount of time.
A 1.5-hour package gives children enough time to decorate their cookies, enjoy their drink and cupcake, and spend time with their friends.
If you would like to add a meal or simply give the children more time, we recommend choosing the 2-hour option.
Need a Little More Time?
You can also add 30 extra minutes for $4 per person.
🥪 4. What If the Kids Are Hungry? Add a Meal Option
This question often comes up when a birthday party takes place around lunchtime: should you plan a meal?
The packages already include a treat and a drink, but you can also add different food options to turn the activity into a complete birthday celebration with a meal.
🥪 Grilled Cheese & Chips
A simple option that is usually a big hit with kids.
🍓 Fruit Platter
A 12-inch platter of assorted fruit to share with the group.
🥕 Veggie Platter & Dip
A 12-inch platter of fresh vegetables served with dip.
🥐 Pastries & Viennoiseries
A 12-inch platter to share with the guests.
When adding a meal option, we generally recommend booking the 2-hour package.
🎁 5. The Party Favor Is Already Taken Care Of
Finding a small gift for every child is often one of the last things parents still need to organize before a birthday party.
With our packages for children ages 6 to 10, each child leaves with a small gift related to the activity:
The party favor includes:
- 1 themed coloring cookie;
- 3 edible-ink markers.
Children can continue the activity later at home, in addition to taking home the cookies they decorated during the party.
🥳 6. An Activity Designed to Be Easy to Organize
For parents, one of the advantages of a birthday package is not having to arrive with all the materials needed for the activity.
The cookies, icing, decorations and treats are prepared ahead of time, and our team is there to help the children during the decorating activity.
👨👩👧 7. Accompanying Parents and Private Café Rental
Two accompanying parents who are not taking part in the decorating activity may stay with the group at no additional charge.
For larger groups, or when several parents would like to stay, it is also possible to add extra adults or privately book the café for 2 hours.
🎂 A Creative, Delicious and Easy-to-Organize Birthday Party
Our birthday packages are available at our Saint-Denis café in Plateau-Mont-Royal and Saint-Laurent café in Little Italy.
Cookie decorating, drinks, cupcakes, party favors and meal options can all be combined into one celebration.
